Therapy and Coaching for Straight Spouses
If you’ve found yourself in a closeted mixed-orientation relationship, having discovered that your partner is queer, you’re in the right place to get the help you need to heal. Here are the services I offer:
Individual counselling or coaching. Counselling is available for people in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, with coaching available globally. I offer both short and long-term counselling and psychotherapy, depending on whether you primarily want to focus on the current problem or explore deeper underlying issues. Coaching is ideal if you’re in the US or Canada, or you’re already working with a therapist, and want to focus specifically on your straight spouse trauma and relationship concerns.
Sessions with your partner. I offer discernment counselling to help you reach a decision about whether to separate, continue as you are, or pursue couples sessions to reconstruct and heal your relationship. This structured approach helps couples reach a decision in 1-5 sessions. Alternatively, we can work together to address co-parenting, amicable separation, or divorce. Relationship coaching can also help you navigate a relationship with a new partner, which can be challenging after betrayal and deception. Contact me to find out more…
Group programs. Finding out that your partner is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender can be incredibly isolating and confusing. Healing in a group setting may be just what you need. After all, relationship wounds heal best in relationship with safe others. I’m currently developing group programs tailored to a variety of cohorts and problem areas. Sign up here to stay in the loop!
Professional supervision or consultation. For helping professionals who support straight spouses, partners of trans people, or an LGBT person who is struggling to come out to their straight partner. This work involves unique relational, identity, trauma, and ethical considerations that often aren’t covered in standard training. This is a highly nuanced area of practice that intersects with betrayal trauma, identity rupture, family systems, and complex ethical dynamics. Supervision provides a reflective, supportive space to deepen understanding, build confidence, and practice this work with clinical integrity and care. Find out more…
Who I Help
Straight spouses who've discovered their partner is LGBT
You’ve discovered that your partner is same-sex attracted, gay, or transgender. You feel betrayed, confused, or grief-stricken. You’re in emotional distress, trying to make sense of things and find your feet again. Perhaps you’re post-separation and trying to rebuild your life. Whatever state you find yourself in, I am here to help! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch to find out more about therapy or coaching.
Closeted Partners
Perhaps you’ve always known you weren’t straight but struggled with shame and ended up marrying a straight partner without telling them. Or perhaps you’ve had a recent realisation of your sexual orientation or gender identity and you don’t know how to tell your partner. Most of my work is with partners of people in your situation. If you would like a session to help you understand what they might be going through and how to best navigate the coming-out process with them, please reach out.
I can help you navigate the challenge of telling your partner the truth and help you understand how to come out to your partner or how to help them heal. You may want help to decide between separating or staying together, or you may want help to separate amicably, releasing each other with love, empathy, and respect.
Straight spouses with parenting concerns
You’re trying to work out how or what to tell your children, or whether you should tell them at all. Perhaps they already know, and you’re trying to help them adapt. Or perhaps you are a parent who’s discovered that your child, who you thought was straight, identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. You’re struggling to come to terms with this and need support to help you support them while processing your thoughts and feelings.
I’m here to help. Please reach out.
Grown children who've discovered one parent is LGBTQIA+
You’ve discovered that one of your parents is lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, and you’re trying to make sense of the past now that you know the truth. You may feel stuck in the middle, and struggling to work through your emotions and thoughts about the discovery. You may be trying to balance LGBT allyship with your feelings about what’s happened.
I’m here to help, by providing a safe, non-judgmental space where you won’t be told what to think, or pressured to “take sides” with one parent. Please reach out for help or book an appointment or enquiry call at the link below.
