Frequently Asked Questions
Who Do You Work With?
I work with straight, cisgender partners who’ve discovered their partner is LGBT. I also work with the older children of these relationships to help them make sense of their new family dynamic. And finally, I work with the closeted partner or couple trying to navigate the coming out process. Appointments can be made here, or you can complete the contact form at the bottom of the page.
Are You Homophobic, Biphobic or Transphobic?
Not at all. I believe in the innate right of all people to live authentic, honest lives in accordance with their sexual orientation and gender identity. I also uphold the rights of straight, cisgender partners to have full disclosure from the beginning of the relationship, so they can make an informed choice. Where the truth has been withheld, we stress the importance of respect and sensitivity in the coming-out process.
Are You Religious?
Not My Closet® is non-religious. I am not anti-faith or anti-spirituality. I support every person’s right to follow or deconstruct their own personal belief system, including those who follow a religious faith and those who are spiritual, agnostic or atheistic.
I Knew My Husband Was Gay - Can You Help Me, Too?
Some people in closeted mixed-orientation relationships have a faith background, due to a history of religious beliefs about LGBT issues. If you entered a mixed-orientation marriage believing you could make it work and it hasn’t worked as well as expected, this can have an impact on your faith. I can help you work through this.
Do You Only Work With Australian Clients?
Counselling is available online in Australia, New Zealand and beyond, excluding the United States and Canada. Coaching is available internationally. If you would like to book a complimentary 15-minute enquiry call, you can do so here.
